Technology
Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union places a strong emphasis on the appropriate use of technology for educational purposes. All students and employees review and sign an acceptable use document in order to gain access to our network and Internet resources. Keeping our children safe on the Internet is a continual challenge and is always prominent thought in minds. The SU uses a variety of means to address this challenge, including filtering devices and conscientious supervision. An M86 device filters all web pages in order to minimize Internet usage that is not consistent with our educational focus, while also complying with the Child Information Protection Act.
One of the SU’s goals is to enhance curriculum and instructional practice through the integration of technology across the curriculum. A significant amount of time is being allocated for technology related professional development activities before and after school and during teacher in-service days, to provide technology for both grade level and curricular areas. We believe that this training will not only add value to instruction but more importantly, it will provide our students with additional modalities of learning that have been proven to enhance understanding of concepts learned in class. Our faculty continually develops lessons that use technology to enhance curriculum and instruction. Walk down the hallway in any of our schools and you will see students and staff using scientific probes, digital microscopes, collaborating together using cloud resources, creating musical scores online, using interactive white boards with student response systems, and individuals involved in video editing and animation projects.
The SU Technology Department also administers Google Apps as our SU-wide Email, calendaring, and collaboration system for all staff and students in grades seven through twelve, PowerSchool Student Information System which provides grades and schedules in real-time from anywhere to students and parents, the student health information system, SNAP, a HelpDesk ticketing system, and the Alexandria library catalog.
